“A STAR IS BORN” Awards Luncheon

On Saturday April 6, 2019, we hosted our annual “A STAR IS BORN” Awards Luncheon at the Dallas Athletic Club and our guests included: club members, award recipients, friends, family and the community.  We bestowed a total of $15,000 monetary awards and scholarships to the following qualifying recipients:

Soroptimist International of Dallas is proud to announce that Marisela Tobias Zavala has been selected as the District 3 winner of the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award – she is advancing to our South Central Region for further competition.  Marisela will be awarded $1,500 at our club’s A STAR IS BORN luncheon on April 6.  She is now eligible for further awards at the regional level.  Marisela suffered physical abuse and molestation as a child. She is the single mother to two children.  Her career goal is to work for a non-profit organization that helps immigrants or children who have suffered psychological, emotional or physical abuse.  She is close to completed her Bachelor’s in Sociology and hopes to one day be able to receive her Masters and Doctorate as well.

UPDATE: We just received notification that our LYD winner, Marisela Tobias Zavala, is the South Central Region LYD winner.  She will receive additional award funds of $5,000 (in addition to the $1,500 we are awarding her).
